This is an interesting book. It is done in the style of Chernev's classic 'Logical Chess Move By Move', with every single move commented on. Yes, there is only Chess: The Art of Logical Thinking book much one can say about the first move of a game, so this is slightly 4/5(40).

Of course I enjoyed "Logical Chess" but the comments GM McDonald wrote are more interesting, and more aligned with modern thinking about chess. His progression from the Classical 1. e4 e5 ideas all the way to the flank openings (mostly the English), is very well thought out/5.

As you play and learn in this vibrant universe of black and white squares, you come to love the feel of the pieces in your hand, and to revel in the dramatic diagonal sweep of the bishop, the delightful leap of the knight, and the powerful thrust of the rook.

This book is well suited for an experienced chess player who had already gone through the other "every move analyzed for lessons" books for beginning and intermediate players.
